Assessment and Treatment
Initial assessment will usually take place in your home and, occasionally, in school. Specialist assessment, observation and discussion with those involved in your child’s care will cover:
self-care skills,
independent living skills,
fine and gross motor skills,
visual perception,
sensory processing,
the need for specialist equipment.
Treatment will be offered following evaluation of the assessment and discussion.
Goal setting is an important aspect of this process and the therapist, carers and wherever possible, the child, will be involved in deciding what needs to be worked on and what we would like to achieve together. Therapy is a partnership between all those involved.
Often, carers will be taught how to work with their child using play or everyday activities.
Treatment programmes will be provided for use at home and/or school.
Advice and guidance on finding “user-friendly” specialist equipment can be given.
